london to brighton

London to Brighton
1)      The genre of this film is a thriller and drama this is known as a hybrid. The way the camera angles lead us to believe the film is a drama and thriller is by the use of close ups and this method concentrates on the expressions of the character furthermore it makes us feel their emotions. There are many close up especially when the male takes the girls hand and then it cuts to her face this suggests she is nervous and scared. We see lipstick on her face, this creates an inappropriate scene for the girl furthermore she is inexperienced which suggests she has lost her innocence. There are various medium shots is when the male leads the two females into the house, this suggests power and dominance in contrast the females are weak and powerless. The characters seem as though they do not want to be involved with this male.
We understand the relationship between the characters and this is represented by the distance, the females do not know the male therefore there is a big distance left to portray this. The distance could represent vulnerability amongst the females and this relates to the drama. As this may be an event that is true this creates realism
The reviews are used not only to promote the film and give feedback but it also tells the audience the genre of the film. The writing is in bold which connotes that the storyline is bold and realistic.
The clever technique of editing includes cuts and blurred vision the reason for using this reflects confusion, furthermore it is consistent in including the genre as the quick cuts create a fast pace film, furthermore it emphasises excitement which are all associated with the thriller theme.
The trailer is consistent with the dark colours and this may connote confusion links to thriller as it creates suspense.
The trailer used diegetic and non-diegetic sounds and the sounds used demonstrate the genre, the film uses a piano which suggests innocence, this sound is used as a sound bridge through the trailer. The sound is non-diegetic sound furthermore another sound is used to increase intensity which connotes thriller and this is where the drums is used and this gives the females a sense of urgency.
The gunshot at the end suggests surprise element within the film, the sound makes the audience jump therefore linking it to thriller.

2)      The way the trailer represents both males and females genders are portrayed in the opposite ways. The feelings and emotions of the males create a contrast for how the females react.
The male gender are represented in this film as stereotypes as what you would normally associate with males links to the characters in the film.
The males are seen to be powerful, dominant and controlling, this is done by taking advantage of the situation the girl is in. the girl is homeless and needs money therefore the female is powerless to money and she needs it therefore she would do anything to get it this means the male is in control as he can make her do what he desires.
The end shot with the male holding the gun gives the male power and is feared. By pointing the gun towards the camera this creates the impression that the gun is being pointed at the audience this makes the audience feel threatened furthermore the camera is looking up to him which reinforces power and superiority and as he is pointing down the audience are aware that he is pointing it towards the girl which suggests she is being controlled, this also allows the audience to have power over the girl
The females fit their stereotype of being weak and powerless through the scenes we see them being controlled and are vulnerable.

3)      The film London to Brighton is an example of a low budget film as the audience notice the unknown actors, the film does not use any known actors therefore this film represents a low budget film in contrast to a huge million pound Hollywood blockbuster.
The settings that the directors have used are real and are not created sets this reiterates the low budget film. The directors do not have enough money to create sets this links to the genre of a drama furthermore it allows the audience to notify that the film has been made by British people and has also been produced in Britain.
In the sequence of the film there are no special effects; explosions could be used however the film has not got enough money to do so as you have to pay for the equipment to create that affect this refers to the low budget film.
The actor’s makeup and clothes are normal although this creates a drama it also shows that
The film is unable to hire better clothes. The makeup is used to a minimum this connotes a less professional makeup artists.
As this film links to people’s emotions and this will not be made by Hollywood as it is risky therefore Hollywood would not risk their target audience as they only attract a mainstream audience and this film would not appeal to them.

4)      The target audience for this film would be from 16-34 and the social demographic would include c2de and the reason for these decisions is the cast, the locations and the overall film and genre.
The film promotes itself by film reviews of newspapers and magazines, as the target audience are aware of these newspapers and magazines they trust their judgement therefore by them suggesting the film is good is persuades the target audience to go and watch the film.
By using the scenes and settings in the trailer is appeals to people as the trailer creates suspense and allows audiences to want to know what happens therefore being interested by the trailer they would watch the film.

Twilight

Media Twilight
1.       What techniques does this trailer use to persuade an audience to see the film?

Camera angles used in the film is a close up and this is used to convey the character feelings and emotions. This allows the audience to see the characters and as they express their emotions it is intense with a close up. There are medium shots as well and this is used to show two characters emotions and how they show their feelings to each other.
There is a use of shot reverse shot and this is used to show how people react to each other. When Edward says to Bella I can’t be with you Edward seems normal but devastated beneath his strong face however Bella is upset and theatrical this allows the audience to suture with the character.
The low and high angle shots used create power and weakness. The volturi is always used in a low angle shot and this makes the audience feel threatened from these people as they have a higher status. On humans and on Bella a low angle shot is used to convey her vulnerability. The humans are at the same level in camera shots and vampires are in a lower angle suggesting their importance this shows that humans are the weakest.

The editing used in this trailer are very professional there is a consistent fade to black the reason for this is to show a smooth transition. Furthermore the use of this affect creates a blink. There are some cut scenes and this relates to the pace of the music. We see a translucent Edward when Bella is riding the motorbike although his presence comforts her he is no longer her protector as left to protect her. The use of cgi show high quality and this is shown when Edward disappears in the sea and this affects show he Is visible but non-human and the use of the close up on the hand suggests she has a new protector.

the sound use non diegetic sounds and this is a drums piano and with these instruments the trailer creates an engaging high pace trailer and this pleases the audience linking to suspense which is liked by the mainstream audience as this excites them. The diegetic sound corresponds with the object on the screen such as the motorbike, crashing into sea and wolf this creates realism and this is used as they are important scenes in the film which link to other important scenes.

The lighting used in this film is high key lighting to keep the film as realistic as possible, the film uses dull colours as well to relate these colours to vampires and these colours used are traditional in order to convey personalities and characteristic.

The use of the forest suggests a link between vampires and wolves who are great enemies and using this setting creates a realistic atmosphere.
The use of a school allows a human to be involved in a natural environment.
The film conveys strong emotions and feelings as it is an romance films and the feelings represent and fit that type of genre and there are also fighting scenes to fit the other genre of action and this includes both genres well to appeal to a wide audience.

2.       How is gender represented in the trailer?

The way males are presented are in a strong and controlling way as the volturi, king and queen of vampires are conveyed at a low angle suggesting there power and strength this is further reiterated when Edward says they are the closest to royalty and they set the rules which suggests their control.
Edward is hurt by the volturi as they can kill Edward, in this trailer it shows the volturi male is stronger than Edward by Edward being beaten by the males reiterates power.
In a scene we see that a male and female is seen at the same height and this becomes present when Jacob is talking to Bella. This shows they are both humans and have the same equality. However when Jacob is a ware wolf he is seen more dominant and this is reflected by the use of a low camera angle shot and this portrays a change in status and has become more powerful.
In this scene we do see that Bella has a sense of power as she does not follow Jacob neither does she listen to him she does whatever she wants and this creates a sense of control she has on Jacob.
However in contrast to males the females seem weaker and powerless. The women in the volturi is still seen in a high angle shot which suggests she I less powerful although she is in the vloturi. She is still weak to males. Bella is mostly looked down at with the use of a high angle shot and this suggests weakness. Although the volturi gain power they can’t use it as Bella is a vampire. No matter how much status Bella gains she will never be as powerful, she only has the power over her feelings.
Bella is vulnerable as she is mostly advised by males suggesting that she is a follower and does not have any direction of control. People don’t talk with they talk at her suggesting she is weaker. Bella tries to make her more involved and seen as a strong fearless character to get what she wants, she feels comforted by Edwards presence. She jumps into the sea just to see Edward shows she will do anything to get what she wants.

3.       What target audience would be attracted to this film? Give evidence.

The target audience of this film is females and the reason for this is because of a love triangle and this creates entertainment amongst females who are engaged by love films and this allows the females to relate their feelings to Bella who is in love with a vampire and cannot be with him this allows females to become Bella and feel similar emotions and feelings. The primary gender includes woman as they are aware of the twilight books and as they are very popular the majority of gender that will see this film is females as they prefer reading rather than males.
The males may be seen as a sex object which will appeal to females as they may like the cast therefore they will watch the film because of the cast and that is what sells the film furthermore they could appeal to male because of their body therefore showing that people will like you if you have that body therefore it motivates people to become stronger.
There are elements of the film which would attract the male gender and that is violence and fighting this is engaging amongst males and is much preferred and this allows the males to enjoy themselves.
The film could be targeted at a white audience and the reason for this is because the cast used in the film are white therefore suggesting this is for white people and will appeal more to white people.
The film shows Bella in high school and how Edward is non-existent and due to this Bella are not concentrating on school and friendship and this creates positive messages for females and males not to get distracted.
The social class related to this this film would be c2de as this will appeals to teenagers who are in school and are unemployed.
From the high standard film and the professional make up you could position this film in front of posh people and they may be considered the secondary audience of this film.

4.       What Hollywood values can you identify in this trailer?

The film twilight is conveyed with a Hollywood valued identity this means that the film was made in Hollywood and the values of the film are associated with Hollywood. Firstly the characters sell this film as they are known celebrities, a list actor’s means that fans know and love the casts and will defiantly watch the film.
This film has been created on the popular twilight books and Hollywood only make best blockbuster films and as the book was very influential on people it allows Hollywood to target this film at their mainstream audience and know that people would love this film.
The film consists of a hybrid genre allowing this film to relate with a wide variety of people. The genres involved in the film are action and romance allowing this film to appeal to both genders.
The settings used are expensive such as the Volturi castle was created therefore suggesting this film had a big budget and the budget of this film was 50 million dollars. And allows the film to be distinguished between a low budget film made in the uk. The film is extremely professional suggesting the best producers were used and special effects were also used reiterating the high quality and high costing of twilight new moon.
The film promotes a dominant ideology of Americans being rich and this is conveyed by the student’s cars in the film which also suggests they are rich.
This film builds suspense between Bella saving Edward from killing himself and this is linked with Hollywood as suspense pleases their target audience and this engages there audience to stay loyal to watching films from Hollywood. The films portrays a love film and it is consistent in Hollywood films that there is a good ending which pleases the audience and this touches all people creates a positive universal theme. There are many additional casts involved in this film which expresses the films high budget in contrast to a low budget film there would be a use of minimum casts.
The film casts make up is very professional suggesting they have hired the best makeup artists in order to make the characters look like vampires.

In this scene during the dark knight there is consistency in the shot type, due to the fact this scene uses medium shot which allows the audience to see the face and the characters upper body as this is where the director wants the audience to focus, this may be because of the actions that may take place, which are important and engaging the audience, they are able to view the surroundings and gain an image to how people are reacting. The director also implies a close up shot to show the expressions and emotions of the character, this allows the audience to become involved in the action and feel the characters emotions as well as identifying the emotion of empathy. The close up allows the characters to see the demented joker, his exaggerated looks and this creates fear for the characters.  Using close ups allows the characters to see objects such as a knife and the use of this creates violence as it is a symbol of danger.
The director shows strong emotions and feelings by using a 360 view of the joker and the women and this replicates a shot reverse shot and this is used to convey how the actors act to a specific action or dialogue. This shot reverse shot creates a suture and this allows the audience to think how the actors feel making the audience involved. The women is fearful whereas the joker is dominant and superior futher this creates a stereotype and creates a dominant ideology of men being stronger than females furthermore a surprise element occurs when the joker is hit by the women which makes the joker feel intimidated.
Another shot reverse shot is used when the joker is normal and pulls his knife out and we see the facial expression of the male and he is fearful when in that situation, this suggests the joker is powerful.
The scene starts off with a diegetic sound, which is a gunshot and this suggests the joker is powerful and dominant as he is in control of that weapon. Therefore people will listen and fear him. Furthermore there is a footstep and there are sounds which correspond to the sounds you would associate on screen when the glass is thrown. Furthermore when he shoots the gun at the glass and it shatters this is also known as diegetic sound.

As soon as the joker puts his hand on a civilian non diegetic drums are used to engage the audience, furthermore the sound is sudden which scares the audience and this suggests violence. There is a non-diegetic sound use in this scene and this sound creates suspense amongst the audience, and this correctly fits the film genre of action/thriller. The sound seems to sound like a siren and this creates a violent theme furthermore it speeds up until it reaches a climax where the women attacks the joker.
When the batman is seen the non-diegetic sound changes and the fight begin and this is parallel as the audience would associate this sound with the fight scene. The sound corresponds with the pace of the fight.

The lighting in this scene uses high key lighting; this creates a realistic scene and gives the audience a sense of realism. The effect of using this allows the black and white contrast to be less apparent.

There are different props used to convey violence and relate it to the genre of the film which is action/thriller. The setting seems to be in a mansion and this shows that upper-class people are involved in this scene however when the joker turns up then this shows and make the audience believe that something bad is going to happen a foreshadow is created by showing contrast between high class people and “thugs” which is said during the scene and this suggests to the joker that he is uninvited, the joker is associated with violence and fear which is bad.

The clothes and the makeup look elegant on the rich people this creates a high society evening amongst the rich and posh people. Furthermore the use of Champaign reiterates the high class people and how rich and powerful they are with their money. The makeup looks very professional which suggests they able to afford the very best. There actors are wearing suits and dresses which glamourizes the actors and makes themselves more appealing.
In contrast there is the jokers and his men and the joker is wearing a suit but is not as glamorous furthermore his men are in normal clothes and this allows the audience to identify who the bad and good people are by their class. We can see the thugs holding guns and this gives them instant power as people are fearful of this weapon therefore people will listen and do what they say. The makeup on the joker is used to make the joker seem mysterious and unpredictable furthermore it is to make him scary as well.

The body language of the actors is different the joker is calm and relaxed by the way he is talking and walking, in contrast the people seem tense and nervous when the joker comes into the scene this shows that people are fearful of the jokers presence.

This scene challenges the audiences mind as you would associate a thriller with dark background however it uses a light background this connotes that joker is willing to leave his comfort zone of darkness to step in light and find the person he is looking for this suggests determination which is consistent throughout the film.

The type of shot used is a crane shot and this is where the camera is about ground level. This shows the setting furthermore the camera uses focusing on actors when the woman and the joker is talking then it shows them focused and the background characters are blurred. There is a sense of point of view as in the scene the camera mainly focuses on the joker and this suggests he is important however when the batman appears the joker is no longer the subject matter therefore the camera diverts to the batman and focuses on him his suggest that batman has a higher status then the joker.
